Job Description

We are currently seeking a full-time Trading Assistant to join our team.


As a Trading Assistant, you will be an integral member of the Portfolio Operations team, collaborating closely with the Investment team and various departments to provide essential operational and transactional support. Reporting directly to the Manager, Trading Operations, this role demands a solid understanding of fixed-income securities and prior experience in hedge fund middle/back-office functions.


The duties and responsibilities of the Trading Assistant include but are not limited to:


Trade Capture and Settlement:

  • Ensures the prompt and accurate execution of all aspects of trade capture and settlement processes, including bonds, equities, money market, options, swaps, and futures;
  • Provides support for automated processes on a busy OTC bond desk, ensuring efficiency and reliability in trade execution;
  • Books, instructs, and coordinates the timely and accurate transfer of securities and cash movements, ensuring precision in execution and settlement.

Issue Resolution:

  • Communicates daily with portfolio managers, counterparties, prime brokers, custodians, operations, and administrators to resolve trade capture and settlement issues effectively;
  • Investigates and follows up on trading-related discrepancies, ensuring integrity and compliance with established procedures and policies.

Risk Management and Reporting:

  • Monitors fail reports and aged settlements, promptly identifying and correcting any discrepancies in trade settlements with accuracy and timeliness;
  • Assists in daily risk management and end-of-day reporting, including performance measurement and attribution tasks as required.

Control and Compliance:

  • Manages existing financial control procedures and proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement or enhancement to strengthen controls;
  • Conducts daily reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of trading activities;
  • Independently checks for accuracy and identifies any deviations from procedures and policies, safeguarding investor interests in an informed and professional manner;
  • Provides general support for the trading desk and performs ad hoc tasks and analyses as needed to support trading operations.

  • Integrity – Maintains ethical standards and upholds RPIA’s values. Earns trust and maintains confidence, especially when handling sensitive information. Speaks plainly and truthfully.

Requirements

  • Must possess expertise in fixed income securities and derivative operations.
  • 1-2 years in hedge fund operations preferred; previous experience with investment systems such as Bloomberg, Calypso, Markit, CTM, and Icelink considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including solid grasp of MS Office applications
  • Advanced Excel, VBA and Python scripting skills are required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. Achievement of, or active pursuit of, a CFA designation or CSI Derivatives Fundamentals course is preferred.
